The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them....
I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed this book. I finished it in three days, devouring every word. Even the way it starts out: "The demon exploded in a shower of ichor and guts " just made me laugh.
Of course, Will was one of my favorite characters, being that he is a stubborn, rude, and cruelly funny Shadowhunter. I was happy to see Magnus there, being that he is Magnus Bae to me.
Once again, Cassandra Clare's plot twists completely make me rethink everything. I did not throw the book, like with City of Bones, but I did screech in a pterodactyl type of way, causing everyone around me in class to question my sanity. (It is not the first, nor will it be the last time this happens)
This masterpiece is brilliant, has no slow parts, and needs to be on everyone's bookshelves. I would rate it 5/5 stars. Do I need the next one (Clockwork Prince)? Immensely.
